Hundreds of adults participated in summer reading contests held at the Cicero and Brewerton branches of the Northern Onondaga Public Library (NOPL) over the past several weeks. The Friends groups of each library generously provided prize incentives, and readers entered drawings for the prizes by leaving reviews of the books they read.
Here are some of the books that our adult summer readers recommend:
“Me Before You,” by Jojo Moyes
“It made me think about the fact that you sometimes have to think of your health and wellbeing before thinking about others — which isn’t always easy.” – Amy
“River Road,” by Carol Goodman
“This is a well-written mystery with a nice love story. The plot is somewhat predictable but the protagonists are likeable. It is set in Central New York, which makes it even more interesting, and the frigid weather we all know so well almost acts as a character in the plot. An enjoyable read.” – Carol
“I Must Say,” by Martin Short
“Great book. Some actors can’t write themselves out of a box, but Martin is honest, insightful, and willing to show his weaknesses. Made my laugh and cry.” – Laura
“The Last Mile,” by David Baldacci
“The book is well written, has characters I cared about, and it was a great thriller. I recommend it highly!” – Cathy
Congratulations to Jules Maderos, Dianna Warner-Flagg, Barbara McKittrick and Beth Vinette, some of the winners of the reading contests at NOPL this summer. Thanks to everyone who participated, and keep those pages turning!
