To the editor:
I would like to enthusiastically support the proposal by Housing Visions to construct a mixed income senior living facility on Burton Street.
The arguments in opposition that I have heard at the village board meeting and repeated in the local newspaper make no sense to me. Some of the statements are patently elitist and ageist. The suggestion that our seniors be warehoused in units on Route 20 East is offensive.
I have had close ties to the Cazenovia community for over 40 years and hope to live out my remaining years here. As a retired and widowed professional, I hope to be one of Kenyon Craig’s first tenants. I am familiar with the Housing Visions ethos and look forward to living in an attractive setting and interacting with children, dogs and other neighbors.
In the matter of water supply, sewage and other concerns raised by detractors of this project, it seems to me that the Cazenovia village and town boards have ample experts available to them to consult on such issues.
One last observation: Communities thrive on diversity; Cazenovians can be proud of their heritage without getting mired in a bygone era.
