To the editor:
My name is Joey Chiarenza, Jr. and I have been an actively serving the community of DeWitt for nearly 30 years. When someone asks me what I like to do, I tell them I like to work and I like to help people.
I have worked at my family’s nursery and landscaping company all my life, outdoors, taking care of our customer’s needs. Four years ago, I ran for town board because it gave me the opportunity to help my community in other ways. If a DeWitt resident has a question or a problem such as about building permits, zoning or other town issues, I will listen and get to work on a solution.
Over the last four years, I have worked with communities to better people’s lives in DeWitt. I chaired the 9/11 Memorial Committee, the Earthday Cleanup Committee, and the CodFISH Committee which provides rides to medical appointments for those with no transportation. I helped some residents get stop signs and street lights installed in order to reduce speeding through neighborhoods with young kids. I have also been an active member of the “board of friends” of the Challenger Baseball Committee. The board was pivotal in in transforming the old Carrier parking lot into a state of the art baseball facility for special needs kids and adults. I was also instrumental in finally getting abandoned “zombie” properties, including Howard Johnson’s on Carrier Circle and the former “Uncle Sam’s disco bar” on the corner of Erie Blvd and Bridge Street, demolished. This should clear the way for using this space for other businesses or community green space.
A lot has been accomplished in DeWitt in the last four years under our current leadership. I ask that voters let us continue our work on making DeWitt an even better place for all of us to live, worship, work and play.
