NORTH SYRACUSE — The North Syracuse Branch of the Northern Onondaga Public Library (NOPL) is hosting “Your Silence Will Not Protect You! The Writing of Audre Lorde,” a seven-session reading and discussion series developed and sponsored by Humanities New York.
This reading and discussion series provides participants an opportunity to discuss Lorde’s writings as they explore issues of race, class, gender, and sexuality. Book selections by Lorde will be provided and include “Warrior Poet,” “The Collected Poems of Audre Lorde,” “Sister Outsider,” “Zami: A New Spelling of My Name,” and “The Cancer Journals.”
This program will provide insight into the differences that strengthen American society and offer an opportunity to discuss Lorde’s powerful voice, documented in her works. In her collection of essays within “The Cancer Journals,” Lorde describes her experiences with breast cancer, and how medical treatment and recovery relate to issues of gender and race.
Meetings in the series are at 6 p.m. at NOPL North Syracuse, with the first session beginning Wednesday, Feb. 9. Other dates in the session are Feb. 19, March 2, April 6, May 4, June 1, and June 29. Attendance at all program dates is encouraged, and the book selections will be available for borrowing at the first session.
NOPL North Syracuse is located at 100 Trolley Barn Lane. For more information about the program and to register, visit nopl.org/events or contact the library at 315-458-6184.
