Canton Woods Art Group creates amazing art. The artists will be displaying their work at the center as of Tuesday, May 21. The art work will be on display through the end of May. Visit the center and take in the art show. You will be impressed by the very talented artists living in your community and gathering at Canton Woods. You may decide to join them!
Coming up at Canton Woods
The Baldwinsville Community Band, along with the Village Singers, will perform a patriotic concert to start your Memorial Day celebration at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 22.
George Leija brings all your favorite tunes back to Canton Woods at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 29! Make a reservation and stay for PEACE lunch at noon. The menu is a Julienne salad topped with ham, turkey, Swiss cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, hardboiled egg and olives, crusty Italian bread, and chocolate cream pie!
The center is a PEACE senior nutrition lunch site on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Make your reservation by calling 315-638-4536 and stop by at noon for lunch. Suggested donation is $3. The nutrition program is open to anyone 60 years of age and older.
Emilee Lawson Hatch will present on advanced care planning from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Monday, June 3. This program is sponsored by the Onondaga County Office for Aging, Institute for Caregivers, and the Alzheimer’s Association Central New York Chapter. In this class, experts in elder law will explain the documents that are available to serve as directives to insure that your wishes are honored including a will, a health care proxy, a power of attorney, a living will. Sharing Memories Writing Program takes place at 1 p.m. every Wednesday. The group is facilitated by Tina Trainham. Just come with your memories.
Health and fitness
Each May, Canton Woods hosts a Health and Wellness event in honor of Older Americans Month. The 2019 Health and Wellness Event is 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 23.
Zumba Gold has come to Canton Woods! Join instructor Susan Petrilli at 9:30 a.m. each Wednesday for 45 minutes of fun. Class fee is $5 (pay as you go), payable to the instructor. Zumba Gold is an easy to follow program that lets you move to the beat at your own speed. Zumba Gold provides modified low-impact moves for all levels and is designed for active older adults and beginners. Zumba is invigorating and fun!
A licensed massage therapist will offer chair massage at Canton Woods from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 29. The fee is $10 for a 10-minute massage. Call 315-638-4536 to make an appointment.
Instructor Yvonne Martin brings Kripalu “chair optional” yoga to Canton Woods. Kripalu yoga is a gentle mindful practice that emphasis compassionate self-acceptance, and awareness. Class resumes in September.
Active Older Americans Aerobics is held at 9:15 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. There is a fee payable to the instructor. June dates are June 4, 11, 18 and 25. June class dates are free!
Canton Woods offers a free falls prevention class at 10 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday lead by a licensed physical therapist, Julie Hall. Spring session ends on May 23.
