Canton Woods is a Food $en$e location. Food $en$e is a monthly food buying co-op for anyone who wants to stretch their grocery dollars. This program is open to everyone. The Food Sense package is $20.50. There are also additional items, (specials) available for purchase each month. The deadline for February is 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12. Sharing Memories Writing Program at Canton Woods. The Sharing Memories Writing Program is held at 1 p.m. every Wednesday. This is a dynamic group who come to together to share their memories and put them down on paper. Experience this engaging process under the guidance of Tina Trainham. Your memories will come alive!
Kripalu “Chair Optional” Yoga at Canton Woods! The class is taught by Kripalu Yoga instructor Yvonne Martin. Kripalu Yoga is a mindful soothing practice that emphasis compassionate self-acceptance, and is adaptable to every person and everybody.
Falls Prevention Class at Canton Woods. This is a free class taught by a licensed physical therapist. The class is held at 10 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.
Armchair Aerobics takes place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. This is led by a volunteer.
Winter weather can sometimes mean closings.
Canton Woods Senior Center is closed only when the village of Baldwinsville is closed.
The PEACE senior lunch program is canceled when the Syracuse City School District is closed.
HIICAP (Health Insurance Information Counseling Assistance Program) offers free and unbiased information and assistance. This program is brought to you from the Onondaga County Office for Aging. If you would like to connect with a HIICAP representative, call Canton Woods for more information.
Art Group will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, and Tuesday, Feb. 20. This group is facilitated by retired B’ville art teacher Mike Conway. The group will accept beginner and intermediate “students” and will focus on drawing and painting. Please bring your sketchbook and art supplies.
Canton Woods Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20. They will be discussing “Winter Garden,” by Kristen Hannah. Get reading and join the lively discussion.
Myrna Koldin, Aging Services Specialist from the Onondaga County Office for Aging, will be here at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16. Topic: New Medicare Cards and Information on Changing your Medicare Health Plan.
Canton Woods has a medication return collection unit. This is a safe environmentally friendly way to dispose of your unused medications. You may drop off your unused medication to the return box at Canton Woods from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Senior Nutrition. You can enjoy lunch at the center. Canton Woods is a senior nutrition lunch site on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Make a reservation by calling (315) 638-4536 and stop by at noon for lunch. The nutrition program is open to anyone 60 years of age and older. Suggested donation is $3.
Wondering what’s for lunch? On Wednesday, Feb. 7, the menu includes shaved corned beef and Swiss cheese, on marble rye bread with 1000 Island dressing, steamed cabbage, carrots and potatoes and diced pears. Make a reservation and join us for lunch!
