Don’t expect the usual string quartet performance at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, in the Liverpool Public Library’s Carman Community Room.
Cellist Lindsay Groves of the Jefferson String Quartet said she and her fellow musicians have special plans for the second of four concerts in the Fall Concert Series Pranksters, Fiddlers, Dulcimers and Harpers.
They’ll perform short pieces that show off the breadth and depth of the violin family, she says, individually and collectively. So do expect “an amazing variety of sounds and different kinds of music,” as well as “some surprises, opportunities to laugh, and … questions taken here and there.”
The concert will feature Sonya Williams and Edgar Tumajyan on violin and Dana Huyge on violin joining Groves on cello
“We are all Symphoria members, and except for Dana, were Syracuse Symphony Orchestra members also, so we have played together a lot, in various ways,” Groves said.
She said patrons should expect a fine musical chemistry.
“This quartet has played with several different violinists now and then, and for this concert, we have Sonya, a very lively, zestful, fearless violinist; Edgar, a very sweet player of amazing watchfulness and finesse; and Dana, who has an uncluttered, forthright, pure and ringing viola sound. I have always been a cellist, have a great cello, and really love playing quartets.”
The series continues Nov. 19 with a folksy show by Dan Duggan and Peggy Lynn, and concludes Dec. 18 with a holiday performance by the Salt City Harpers. Both are 2 p.m. Sunday concerts.
All shows are free.
The concerts are co-presented with the Liverpool is The Place Committee and made possible by a grant secured by Senator John A. DeFrancisco.
