May is Older Americans Month. This year the theme is “Blaze a Trail! According to the Administration for Community Living, who sets the theme, it acknowledges the perennial contributions of older adults to our nation and celebrates how older adults take charge of their health get engaged in their communities and make a positive impact in the lives of others. May is the perfect time to raise awareness about issues facing older Americans and opportunity to advocate for themselves, their peers, and communities. “Blaze a Trail” to your senior center which promotes activities and wellness for older Americans. May, Older Americans Month is another very busy month at Canton Woods.
Canton Woods Summer Entertainment Series. The fun continues with music by George Leija on at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5. George plays your favorites from the 1950s to the present day. Make a reservation and stay for lunch at noon, featuring a special menu for Cinco de Mayo including a beef and bean taco salad and lemon meringue pie!
Music is in the air at the center all month. At 3 p.m. Friday May 20, The Village Singers will share some summertime favorites. Feel free to join in. The Baldwinsville Community Band will kick off the Memorial Day holiday at the Center at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 25. The band will play patriotic tunes and marches which always creates a festive atmosphere!
The National Grid Consumer Advocate will be at Canton Woods at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 10. If you have any questions about your National Grid account, this is your opportunity to get answers and assistance.
Canton Woods welcomes guest speaker Tracey Clark from the Food Bank of CNY at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 13. Tracey is knowledgeable regarding the SNAP (Senior Nutrition Assistance Program) and all of the Food Bank’s programs.
Canton Woods will hold its annual Health and Wellness Event from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 19. Come by and learn about the full range of services available to you in the community.
In addition to special events, our regular daily schedule offers an ever-expanding range of activities. Due to its popularity, Adult Coloring is now scheduled twice a week, 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday and Friday mornings. Bring your own supplies if you have them or we will provide some basic materials.
If you are due for your AARP Defensive Driving Class, call the center at 638-4536 to sign up. The next class is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16.
Senior Nutrition. You can enjoy lunch at the center. Canton Woods is a senior nutrition lunch site on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Make a reservation (638-4536) and stop by at noon for lunch. The nutrition program is open to anyone 60 years of age and older. Suggested donation is $2.75.
Wondering what’s for lunch? On Monday May 9, the menu includes sweet Italian sausage with marinara sauce served with shell pasta, broccoli florets, vanilla ice cream and soft Italian bread. Make your reservation and join us for a delicious lunch.
