CAZENOVIA — This past weekend, the Cazenovia High School (CHS) Drama Club presented “Mamma Mia!”
The show debuted on March 3, with an evening performance on March 4 and two additional shows on March 5.
Set on a Greek island, the musical uses the hit songs of Swedish pop group ABBA to tell the story of a young woman’s search for her birth father.
On the eve of her wedding, Sophie Sheridan’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.
“After the challenges of the last few years, I’m thrilled to be running the process and working together as a cast on the stage,” said CHS Choral Music Teacher and Fine Arts Department Chair Maggie Dougherty on March 2. “It’s encouraging to see the confidence, energy and passion come back. I’m excited for our students — off stage and on — to have a platform where they can put their skill sets on display in a performance in front of a live audience.”
Under the direction of Dougherty and Maureen Carroll, the CHS Drama Club put on a captivating show with excellent vocal performances, dynamic acting, well-choreographed dance numbers, fun costumes and sets, and a lively pit orchestra.
The production starred Corinne Albicker (Friday and Saturday 2 p.m.) and Clare Douglas (Thursday and Saturday 7 p.m.) as Sophie; Baylee Pierce as Sophie’s mother, Donna; Ethan Coburn as Sam Carmichael; Jake DeCew as Bill Austin; Elijah Gebers as Harry Bright; Dylan Shepard as Sophie’s fiancé, Sky; Ilsa Denton and Ainsley Schug as Sophie’s friends Lisa and Ali; Maren Smith and Maggie Rowles as Donna’s lifelong friends Tanya and Rosie; JP Hoak as Pepper; and Zac Debus as Eddie.
