CAZENOVIA — This Halloween, Cazenovia Community Preschool (CCP) will host its first “Truck or Treat” fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 31 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Fenner Road Sports Complex at 2350 Fenner Road.
The fundraiser will feature heavy equipment such as tractors, fire trucks and dump trucks, on display, arts and crafts, carnival games, a photo booth, cider and donuts, Stockyard BBQ’s lobster roll truck and BBQ truck, and “truck or treating.”
“Kids will move from truck to truck and get a candy treat, meet the owners, and see heavy equipment that most wouldn’t otherwise get to experience,” explained CCP Treasurer Katie Becker. “[The idea arose because] the executive team wanted to branch out and pursue new fundraisers that were safer amid COVID, while being an inclusive family-friendly event for the community. The event will offer a unique experience and CCP is grateful to all who have contributed to its success.”
According to Becker, Tops Friendly Market is donating the cider and donuts and Our Farm is donating pumpkins. Chittenango Landscape, Hill Vue Farms, Cazenovia Equipment Company, Dan Coley, Dave Lindow, Phil Cunningham, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Schuyler’s Scapes, Emrich Construction, Stowell’s Equipment, Hackney’s Equipment, Erieville Fire Department, Newton Ag Services, and the Village of Cazenovia will provide the equipment.
“[I] want to extend CCP’s massive gratitude for the generosity of the Cazenovia community in supporting [our] mission,” said Becker. “We are so thankful.”
Founded in 1969 and operated out of a retrofitted house at 49 Burton St., CCP is a not-for-profit, comprehensive preschool with a mission to provide well-rounded and nurturing learning experiences for children in the Cazenovia area, regardless of ability or family income, with the goal of supporting the full development of each child’s potential. The program’s curriculum emphasizes language, cognitive, social, physical, emotional and creative development.
Proceeds from the “Truck or Treat” event will benefit CCP’s tuition assistance program.
“On average, CCP provides $10,000 annually in tuition assistance,” said Becker. “Our annual fundraising goal is to first replenish our $10,000 tuition assistance need, at a minimum. From there, additional funds raised are used for program enrichment, capital improvements, and to support future growth initiatives. Since the onset of COVID, CCP’s event-based fundraising efforts were forced to a near standstill. We are hopeful we can ramp up fundraising this year to help offset the deficit the last 18 months created.”
Ticket prices are $5 per person (children ages 2 and under are free) with a maximum of $20 per family. Costumes are encouraged.
