BALDWINSVILLE — The Baldwinsville Central School District Board of Education has chosen a new superintendent of schools: Jason Thomson, most recently the superintendent of the Ichabod Crane Central School District (ICC) in the Hudson Valley.
The BOE voted 7-1 at a special meeting called Aug. 16 to approve the three-year agreement with Thomson. Anthony Germano cast the opposing vote.
According to BOE President Jennifer Patruno, the district’s nationwide superintendent search drew 21 applicants. BCSD interviewed nine candidates, and Thomson was in the top two.
Thomson’s annual starting salary is $196,000. His three-year contract with the district expires Aug. 16, 2024.
Thomson briefly addressed the BOE meeting and thanked the board for the opportunity.
“You have a wonderful, wonderful district,” he said. “I’m really excited and very very much looking forward to this opportunity. I can’t wait to hit the ground running first thing tomorrow.”
Thomson is slated to begin work Aug. 17.
Prior to his brief stint at Ichabod Crane, Thomson spent nine years as superintendent of Delaware Academy Central School District in Delhi, New York, according to coverage by the Columbia Paper, a weekly newspaper serving Columbia County, New York.
Thomson began at ICC in February 2020 and resigned in May 2020. The Columbia Paper quoted Thomson’s statement from ICC’s website. The resignation statement is no longer available on the district’s website.
“Please know I did not come to this decision lightly and I have made it for family health and personal reasons. My family is still living in Delhi, NY, and I need to be present for them right now during these uncertain and challenging times. I will, of course, continue my commitment to Ichabod Crane through the end of June,” Thomson said.
During the search for a new superintendent, BCSD used the consulting services of McPherson & Jacobson LLC.
