Three hours after the Fayetteville-Manlius School District announced that a teacher at Fayetteville Elementary had tested positive for COVID-19, the district announced that a teacher shared between Fayetteville Elementary and Wellwood Middle School had also tested positive.
This comes one day after a student at F-M High School tested positive for COVID-19.
As it did with the positive test of the student at the high school, the district has closed the schools for in-person teaching for Friday, Sept. 25. All Fay El and Wellwood students are expected to attend classes remotely that day.
An email from Superintendent Dr. Craig Tice indicated the district expects the schools to return to the normal hybrid schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 29. The district is closed on Monday, Sept. 28 for the Yom Kippur holiday.
“The Onondaga County Department of Health will take the lead role in any further steps that may be necessary, such as additional testing of individuals and or contact tracing,” Tice wrote.
Following the announcement of a student testing positive for COVID-19 at the high school on Wednesday, Sept. 23, the school cancelled in-person classes at the high school. The high school will return to its normal hybrid schedule on Friday, Sept. 25.
One teacher and 17 students at the high school have been quarantined following the completion of the county’s contact tracing.
