To the editor:
Before reading this, ask yourself if you know what the Baldwinsville Central School District Board of Education does. Do you know how your tax dollars are being spent? For most people, that answer is no. The board of education is seriously lacking transparency.
As I attended the first meeting of the year a couple of weeks ago, which is open to the public, I looked around saw no more than 15 people attending the meeting, most of which were teachers and administrators.
Not everyone has time to attend meetings twice a month on Monday nights but there are so many other ways to keep the taxpayers informed. Live-streaming meetings on Facebook and Twitter to Baldwinsville’s thousands of followers and emailing important parts of the meetings to parents and community members would be a great start. The current website is archaic and extremely difficult to navigate, even for someone like me who has grown up surrounded by technology.
Living in the 21st century, there are so many resources that our school district is not utilizing. I realize it is easy to sit here and criticize the board of education; however, I plan on bringing real change to Baldwinsville come the election this May.
