At the June 27 meeting of the Fayetteville Village Board, friends, family and village residents gathered to listen to Trustee Dan Kinsella read an address that was given by his mother, Yvonne Alice Kershaw(maiden name), who was named the salutatorian of Union Free School in 1916. Kinsella’s reading was given almost 100 years to the day that the speech was originally given, which was on June 28, 1916. Village historian Barbara Rivette said in 1888, the community gathered to build the Union Free School, which served as Fayetteville High School and was located near where the current Fayetteville Village Hall and Fire Station now sit.
