Three Cazenovia Pop Warner Football participants were named to this year’s Little All-American Scholars team for being student athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom.
Pop Warner requires participants to be in the fifth grade or higher and have at least a 96 percent grade point average just to apply for the Scholar Program. The student athletes are also rated on their extracurricular activities and achievements. Only the top 2 percent of the 350,000 children who play Pop Warner are selected to the Little All-American Scholar team.
This year’s Pop Warner Little Scholars from the Cazenovia program are: J.P. Hoak, Daniel Hathaway and Peter McCole. Celebrated as well were Jack Byrnes and Ben Barnes who achieved recognition for their excellent GPAs.
Pop Warner Football is the only national youth sports program in America that requires its participants to perform adequately in the school. Students must have a 70 percent grade point average to participate in the program.
“Cazenovia Pop Warner is proud of its student athletes and of its role in encouraging effort and performance in the classroom. Coaches for Cazenovia Pop Warner stress the importance of a strong positive attitude on the field and in school,” said Tom Seeley, Pop Warner coach. “Congratulations to our Little All-American Scholars.”
