Doris Eversfield Webster, 95, of Cazenovia, passed away Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, at the Nottingham RHCF, Jamesville.
Born in 1926 in Syracuse, the beloved only child of B. Lily Gislingham Eversfield and Charles R. Eversfield, natives of England, Doris grew up in Watertown, where she learned to ski, boat, play bridge and spot airplanes from a fire tower during WWII.
A National Honor Society graduate of Watertown High School, she arrived at Cazenovia College in 1944 with a merit scholarship, a job waiting tables and a ration coupon book, graduating June 9, 1946, the same day Albert’s Restaurant opened. After college, Doris worked at SU Medical College in the biochemistry department, met returning Navy veteran Robert C. Webster at Colgate University, and married him in 1948. Residing in Connecticut and Massachusetts, they moved to Cazenovia where she engaged in significant community volunteer activities, served her college, raised three children, and forged a successful career as a licensed real estate broker.
A class agent since graduation, Doris was a member of the Cazenovia College Board of Trustees, the Alumni board, College Auxiliary, supported student scholarships and sponsored the Great Minds/Great Ideas lecture series. Twice awarded the distinguished alumni award, she was honored in 2011 with the Distinguished Service award. Doris was a charter member of CAVAC, member of the Friends of Lorenzo, Cazenovia Symphony Guild, Society for New Music, Land Use Committee and Cazenovia Preservation Foundation and served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, hockey mom, Pony Club board member, Presbyterian Church elder and St. Peter’s congregant.
Known for her sense of humor, capacity for friendship, love of music, books and travel adventures, her vitality, wit and spirit will be remembered and missed by her family and many friends.
Doris was predeceased by her husband Robert C. Webster; her son, David C. Webster and by her partner, Robert B. Cody. She is survived by her daughter Sally Webster (Susan Bassett); daughter Susan Webster-Chiarello; daughter-in-law Sarah Helbig Webster; granddaughter Ryanne Chiarello (Josh Leach); grandson Cody Chiarello (Savannah Hodgens Chiarello); grandson Peter Webster (Rachel Waller Webster); grandson Samuel Webster; great-granddaughter Mila Chiarello and AFS daughter Lucia Cordeiro.
A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 12 Mill St., Cazenovia NY on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021 at 11 a.m. Kindly note for safety, masks are required.
