To the editor:
I am writing you regarding the current race for Onondaga County Legislator for the 14th legislative district. Concerning that race, I have had the honor of knowing Casey Jordan, the current county legislator for this district, since he took office in November 2016.
During the time that Casey has been in office, I have witnessed him work tirelessly to keep real property taxes low, to reduce and minimize the size, scope and cost of county government and to promote true economic growth in our community. At the same time, Casey has sponsored numerous resolutions to support our veterans, including resolutions to maintain the income and benefits of county employees called to active duty, to expand the Onondaga County Veteran’s Cemetery and to permit local veterans to claim an increased alternate veteran’s exemption on their real property tax bills. Casey also sponsored a resolution in the County Legislature, and I was privileged to sponsor a corresponding bill in the State Senate, to provide for a “Cold War” veteran’s exemption for veterans who would not otherwise qualify for a veteran’s exemption on their real property tax bills.
Casey has also proudly supported funding for child care for low-income parents who need to work, for the Imagination Library to help young children learn to read, for protections for our water and natural resources, and millions of dollars for repairs and improves to our aging and deteriorating infrastructure.
During his tenure, Casey has been a very vocal, deliberate and determined voice of and advocate for the people of the 14th Legislative District, and for all of Central New York, irrespective of party or politics. I believe that Casey has been an outstanding and dedicated representative for his constituency. I therefore support and strongly urge you to support Casey Jordan for re-election to the Onondaga County Legislature for the 14th legislative district.
John A. DeFrancisco
State Senator
