Fayetteville — The chance to submit petitions to run for elected positions in Fayetteville has come and gone, and all of the seats up for reelection will be unopposed races. The positions up for election on March 15 are mayor, village justice and two trustee positions.
Incumbent mayor of Fayetteville Mark Olson announced that he will seek reelection in January. Olson has served as mayor since 2004, and was first elected to the village board in 1996. He will run on his Fayetteville First independent party line.
James Hughes announced he will seek reelection in the position Fayetteville Village Justice. Hughes was first elected to the Village of Fayetteville Court in March 2013 and succeeded Judge Tom Miller who had been elected to the Onondaga County Court. Hughes is a law partner with Hancock Estabrook LLP and has been practicing law full-time for the past 36 years. He is a 1972 graduate of Fayetteville-Manlius High School and a 1979 graduate of SUNY Buffalo Law School.
In addition, incumbent trustees Daniel Kinsella and Dennis Duggleby will seek reelection in their seats. Kinsella has served on the board for 36 years as a trustee and has been liaison to almost all departments and committees. Currently, Kinsella is serving as deputy mayor and is liaison to recreation, village court and the codes department. Kinsella is a lifelong resident of Fayetteville and worked as a mathematics teacher at Chittenango High School for 37 years.
“I like being a trustee,” said Kinsella.” I feel that I have much to offer with regard to decisions and laws that affect our residents.”
Duggleby has been a resident of Fayetteville since 2000 and served on the village’s zoning board before being elected to the village board. Duggleby is the senior territory manager for General Mills in Upstate New York.
Mayor, justice and trustee seats all have a term of four years.
Fayetteville village elections will be held from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15 at the Fayetteville Village Offices, 425 E. Genesee St. in Fayetteville.
The Eagle Bulletin will include candidate profiles for all upcoming elected positions in a future edition of the paper.
