Fayetteville — Incumbent mayor of Fayetteville Mark Olson has announced that he will seek reelection in the upcoming March village elections.
“I just love doing the job and being part of the community and being able to give back. I think we’ve got a lot of momentum going right now and I just really enjoy it,” said Olson. “I’m very proud of the quality of life we’ve been able to maintain in the village and increasing the parks and the sidewalks and making it all about our community.”
Olson has served as mayor since 2004, and was first elected to the village board in 1996. He will run on his Fayetteville First independent party line.
A lifelong resident of the village, Olson has been employed in the food service industry and currently is the vice president of sales and marketing for Gerharz Equipment. He lives on Linden Lane with his wife and two sons, Nathan and Noah.
In addition to his work as mayor of Fayetteville, Olson is active in the New York State Conference of Mayors, is a board member for the F-M Little League and Fayetteville Fire Department and has been involved with Consensus, the county-wide initiative to investigate ways to improve government service delivery.
During his tenure as mayor, Olson said he believes his management style and his philosophy of treating the village as a business that serves the residents has helped him make positive changes. He said the tax rate in the village has not increased during his time as mayor.
Olson said he believes the village can improve in some areas and, if elected, he will strive to improve the communication between the village government and residents so they can be more informed and involved.
“I will continue to try to keep that tax rate as low as possible while still maintaining the services we provide as a village and continuing to work on quality of life projects,” said Olson “Another big thing I hope to do is to try to do a better job communicating on social media or on our website. I want to try and get people informed and involved in the village.”
The term for mayor is four years. Currently, there has been no word of any opponents who will challenge Olson in the election.
The village election will be held on Tuesday, March 15.
