The North West Fire District referendum remains undecided after last night’s close vote. Commissioner Jack Kline told the Messenger that the final remaining ballots will be verified and counted this afternoon at the Onondaga County Board of Elections, but he provided unofficial numbers from the close of the polls last night:
- Proposition I: 305 yes, 297 no
- Proposition II: 285 yes, 319 no
Kline said approximately 600 residents voted on the referendum, but the district must verify whether all of them were registered to vote in the NWFD.
Proposition I seeks authorization for the NWFD to purchase Baldwinsville Station 1 (located at 7911 Crego Road) and Baldwinsville Station 2 (7461 State Fair Blvd.) from the Baldwinsville Volunteer Fire Company for $2,065,407.
Proposition II seeks authorization for the district to build the Smokey Hollow Road station, which would replace Baldwinsville Station 3 on Elizabeth Street. Proposition II also provides for an addition to Station 1. The total cost of both construction of the new station and the addition is not to exceed $4,486,824.
The Messenger will update this story as more information becomes available.
