Van Buren Town Clerk Lynn Precourt is keeping up with her studies. Precourt recently was recognized by the New York State Town Clerks Association for renewing her status as a registered municipal clerk.
Precourt, who has served as Van Buren’s town clerk since December 2002, earned the certification by participating in continuing education and maintaining leadership in various professional and civic organizations.
“I’m pleased that I was able to renew it. I think it shows that I have a level of experience that the residents of this town benefit from,” Precourt said.
In conjunction with the New York State Association of City and Village Clerks, the NYSTCA launched the registered municipal clerk certification program in 1997.
“The program aids municipal clerks in improving job performance and recognizes the professionalism of the municipal clerk’s office,” said a release from NYSTCA.
The NYSTCA was founded in 1982 to promote professional development for town clerks across New York as administrative leaders by providing specialized assistance and continuing education for clerks and their deputies. Of the 932 towns in New York state, about 900 are a part of the NYSTCA.
