The Lysander Town Board passed a variety of resolutions at its Jan. 26 meeting. Notably, the board approved the creation of the Pompo Woods drainage and sewer districts as well as the retirement and reinstatement of two employees and took care of some business regarding the Lysander Radisson Community Arena.
Personnel changes
The town board accepted two retirements at the Jan. 26 meeting and then appointed those retirees back to their positions on a part-time basis.
Cindy Halstead, a clerk in the assessor’s office, is retiring effective Feb 6. Then, beginning Feb. 9, Halstead will continue as a part-time assessment clerk (working no more than 20 hours per week) at her current pay rate of $15.55 per hour. Supervisor John Salisbury said Halstead would be filling in for another employee in the assessor’s office, who has been out for several months.
Comptroller David Rahrle retired effective Jan. 23 but will also stay on with the town. Rahrle will work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as part-time comptroller at a prorated $30,000 per year from Jan. 26 until Dec. 31, 2015.
“He would be sorely missed — I said ‘would be’ — but he’s agreed to work three days a week,” Salisbury said.
Salisbury said Rahrle had been with the town since 1991 and recognized Rahrle’s service with a proclamation designating Jan. 22, 2015, as “David J. Rahrle Retirement Day.” The proclamation was partially authored by Rahrle’s wife, Cindy.
Sewer, drainage and water issues
The town board approved the creation of the Pompo Woods drainage and sewer districts. Town Attorney Tony Rivizzigno said the developer would pay the $175,000 in drainage improvements and $255,000 sewer improvements, which includes the installation of pipes.
The town board has received an informal petition from a group of five households on the south end of Smokey Hollow Road requesting that they not be included in the proposed Lamson Road Water District.
Town engineer Al Yager said during the work session preceding the meeting that excluding that end of the road from the district would affect three other households who said they do want to be included.
Yager said that he could create two map plans and reports: one including the south end of Smokey Hollow Road and one that excludes that section of road, and the town board can decide before the public hearing which option they want.
Ice rink issues
The town board approved two repairs to the Lysander Radisson Community Arena.
The doors will be repaired by Mullen Industrial Handling Corp. at a cost of $1,850. In an email to Salisbury, Recreation Program Director Tony Burkinshaw said the left side main door sticks and does not lock properly, while the right side doors have a space between them with no crash bar.
Town Mechanical will fix the heat in the back locker rooms at a cost of $651.28.
Due to the impending sale of the ice arena to DHD Ventures, the town is extending its contract with management consultant Robyn Bentley-Graham until Feb. 28. The contract extension maintains Bentley-Graham’s current rate of pay, which is $60 per hour.
If the sale does not close in March as the town and the buyer hope, Lysander may extend the contract even further.
Salisbury said he had called Bentley-Graham twice about extending her contract, but he had not heard back from her as of the meeting. He assured the board that she is fulfilling her duties as manager of the ice arena.
