The Van Buren Town Board voted last week to take over the repaving of the final section of road in the Harbour Heights neighborhood. Town Supervisor Claude Sykes said the developer, Eldan Homes, has failed to finish the project.
The town has received $97,250 checks from the developer’s letters of credit to cover the cost of the work. The total cost of the paving is estimated to be $142,000 plus trucking expenses.
“The developer feels he cannot complete the paving as planned,” Sykes told The Baldwinsville Messenger after the meeting.
“Just so the residents are aware, it’s not just a matter of paving over,” Councilor Pat Dickman said during the meeting. “They’re actually going to be digging out sections because it’s been so long.”
Highway Superintendent Doug Foster said the project will take four to five days of milling, binding and applying top coat to the road.
Harbour Heights is located off Downer Street and contains about 160 homes.
The town will seek bids from two contractors through an Onondaga County contract to complete the paving. The winning bid will be awarded in October.
“It’s going to be a matter of which company can get here and get it done before the snow flies,” Sykes said.
The Van Buren Town Board next meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Town Hall, 7575 Van Buren Road, Baldwinsville.
