At about 11 p.m. on March 21, officers from the DeWitt Police Department and deputies from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an address on Caton Drive for a shooting that caused injuries.
After arriving to the scene, it was learned that the victim, a 38-year-old male, had been transported by personal vehicle to a local hospital, where he was treated for related injuries sustained to his lower extremities.
The DeWitt Police Department’s Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations Division determined that a fight had broken out among multiple parties in a parking lot of the Springfield Garden apartment complex and that a male suspect had shot the male victim with a handgun.
The DeWitt Police Department names Jon A. Bryant, 25, of Syracuse, as the suspect in the shooting.
At about 3:40 a.m., Bryant was located by officers and investigators at the Speedway gas station located at 3300 Erie Boulevard East in DeWitt, where he was taken into custody without incident according to police.
Bryant was charged with assault in the first degree, criminal use of a firearm in the first degree, and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, police said. Bryant was lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center to await arraignment.
Additionally, Bryant was found to have two out-of-state felony warrants for which his extradition is expected, police said.
