TOWN OF DEWITT – At its April 27 meeting, the DeWitt Planning Board approved a site plan for the renovation of the Glen Loch Mill in Jamesville.
Formerly a restaurant used as a venue for wedding receptions and other events, the Glen Loch closed down in the summer of 2013 after 40 years of business.
The property at 4626 North St. once owned by the Barr family went on sale for $600,000 in 2019 and was purchased by Chris Cooke, who also owns the neighboring auto repair service Cooke’s Car Care.
The planned site configuration includes a deck addition, a “simplified roof structure” and added screening that covers the electrical gas meters on the property.
The building will be utilized as a banquet space, and though it will include a kitchen and a dining area, it will not be operated as a restaurant according to the presenter of the renderings, Jeremy Arts of Arts Design Group and AnCor, Inc. There will be a parking spot count of 146, and the basement of the building will be used only for storage.
“It has been determined that the banquet use is less intense, as there is more control of the operator over singular events than general restaurant use,” said Planning Board Chair Peter Webber.
The board has found “no significant negative, adverse environmental impacts” connected to the project, its review taking into account the proximity of the site to Butternut Creek.
Because the lighting plan and other permits are awaiting separate approval from the planning board, the construction project timeline for the Glen Loch renovation has yet to be revealed.
