Q: What problem does your organization solve?

A: We encourage, support and empower volunteers to meet the needs of the Greater Baldwinsville community.

Q: Why does your product or service stand out?

A: We are the only local community-based volunteer center in Onondaga County. All of our programs serve only the Baldwinsville community located within the Baldwinsville Central School District.

Bee Local is a monthly feature highlighting local businesses, all of which are members of the Greater Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce. Subjects are chosen and interviewed by the chamber.

Q: Why did you choose to locate your organization in B’ville?

A: Our Volunteer Center first existed as a branch of the Volunteer Center of Syracuse and Onondaga County. When they merged in 1997 with United Way, an agency that does not support the concept of branch or satellite sites, our Volunteer Center was slated to close. At that time, our board of directors decided to take the necessary steps to become an independent agency and in 1998, the Baldwinsville Volunteer Center, Inc. was born.

Q: What is your favorite part about the B’ville community?

A: The generosity of the community and their willingness to share, contribute, and work together to make Baldwinsville a special place to call home.

Q: What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in the last year?

A: Things are not always as they appear… just because you believe it’s so, doesn’t make it so.

Q: What do you see for your organization in the next five years?

A: My hope is that the BVC will continue to serve Baldwinsville through the programs it has in place and that coordination of volunteer activities can be focused and viable.

Q: What has been your most satisfying moment in operating your organization?

A: The BVC has two high school student representatives on our board of directors. I am always blown away by their perspectives, willingness to volunteer, and fresh ideas.

Q: If you were to tell one person “thank you” for helping you become the person you are today or your organization become what it is today, who would it be and what did they do?

A: I would have to thank all of the Man and Woman Volunteers of the Year. Realizing the breadth of their commitment has been humbling.

Q: What super power would you like to have?

A: Ha! There’s not one I wouldn’t like to have.
