Shabby Chic, a specialty furniture and home décor shop offering hundreds of unique items from local artists, has recently moved into a new location at 204 W. Genesee St. in Fayetteville and plans to provide an expanded array of products to the eastern suburbs.
On March 29, Shabby Chic moved from its old location at the Canal Barn off of Cedar Bay Road in Manlius, and is now operating at the former Shoppes at Limestone location, 204 W. Genesee St. in Fayetteville.
“I saw the opportunity to expand and took it,” said Lisa Hogan, owner. “I’m so excited for this change and can’t wait to continue to provide a positive shopping experience to my customers.”
Hogan, a former owner of a fitness center, said she got the idea to create her own shop four years ago after spending some time specializing in space organization and event planning. By creating her own store made up of unique and custom home pieces, Hogan hopes to provide a destination shopping experience for her customers.
The specialty store is stocked by estate sales and items on consignment, and Hogan provides custom furniture services as well as home interior planning. One thing which makes Shabby Chic unique is that Hogan works with a group of about 80 Central New York artists to be able to provide one-of-a-kind quality pieces.
“Instead of having furniture and décor buying being a dreaded task, I want customers to have fun and want to come back,” said Hogan. “You won’t find any other store that operates at this level of using local artists.”
This new space in Fayetteville totals 1,500 square feet, compared to 1,000 square feet in the Canal Barn location. It will allow Hogan to expand her collection, as well as display pieces in a way which will show the utility of the items. For example, the new location has a kitchen and Hogan said she is able to stage items in a way to give inspiration to customers.
Because she is the only employee, Hogan believes she is able to create a strong bond with the customer because they always know who they will be working with. So far, Hogan said customer’s reactions to the move have been very positive and more than 200 people visited during their “soft opening” the week of March 29.
“They just come in and say, ‘Wow, it’s so bright in here,’ and ‘This makes me smile, it’s so cheery,’” said Hogan. “I have such great and loyal customers. Some even offered to help me during the move!”
Hogan said she is constantly bringing in new products, about 20 to 60 per week. Each week, an update of new items is posted online for customers to browse before they come in.
Hours for the shop are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. To learn more about Shabby Chic, go to shabbychiccny.com, search “Shabby Chic Home & Garden” on Facebook, or call 558-1832.
