Ashley M. Casey, reporter for the Baldwinsville Messenger and the Eagle Star-Review, was recently honored with an award at the New York Press Association 2014 Better Newspaper Contest held March 27 and 28 in Saratoga Springs.
“I’m really proud of the work that our staff does to make our newspapers as compelling as possible each week,” Eagle Newspapers Publisher David Tyler said. “Ashley’s award is a testament to her hard work and commitment to the Baldwinsville community.”
Casey, a Le Moyne College graduate, won third place for her coverage of local government for the Baldwinsville Messenger. A member of Fabius-Pompey High School Class of 2008, Casey joined the Eagle Newsspapers staff in 2014.
Casey said she is honored to be recognized by her peers.
“I’m dedicated to helping the citizens of Baldwinsville better understand what is going on in their local government, and I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve our readers through Eagle Newspapers,” Casey said.
The New York Press Association represents more than 700 weekly and small daily newspapers across New York state. There were more than 4,500 entries in a variety of different advertising and editorial categories in the 2014 Better Newspaper Contest.
