Baldwinsville, Lysander and Van Buren officials are working together, again.
The three municipalities have agreed to submit an intra-municipal grant application to the New York State Archives Local Government Records Management Improvement program for funds to purchase a Global Information System (GIS). The municipalities can receive up to $100,000 in grant monies, depending on a GIS needs assessment being drafted by Barton and Loguidice, which will be submitted with the application.
According to Van Buren Engineer Jason Hoy, GIS helps municipalities track trends through parcel/property based data. This system would assist the municipalities’ various departments in many capacities, specifically by making information quickly accessible.
Pursuing the grant on behalf of all three municipalities increases the likelihood of receiving the funds, said Lysander Supervisor Barry Bullis.
“It truly shows that the three municipalities are looking into each other’s best interest,” Baldwinsville Mayor Joseph Saraceni added.
The application for the zero-match grant is due Feb. 1, and officials should know whether it was awarded in the summer of 2011.
