Drop-In Tech Help | Mondays 10:00 AM – Noon : Let us help with your tech questions: computers and mobile devices, downloading e-content from the library’s catalog, using Google Drive and social media platforms! Baby Bounce and Rhyme | Wednesdays, August 2nd, 9th, 16th at 9:15 AM: Bond with your baby during this program featuring nursery rhymes, books, movement and fingerplays, followed by play and social interaction. For babies up to 18 months.No registration. Ages birth – 18 months.
Story Time at Austin Park | Thursdays, August 3rd and 10th at 10:30 AM: Grab a blanket or lawn chair and join us for story time at Austin Park (near the Jordan Street parking lot) as we celebrate the outdoors, sing songs, and pop bubbles. Location: Austin Park. For ages 18 months – 5 years. Story Time will move inside at the library during inclement weather.

Pete The Cat Party | Tuesday, August 1st at 10:30 AM: Whether you’re a big fan or new to the Pete The Cat books, join us at the library for crafts and activities with a Pete-theme. No registration. Ages 3 – 7.
The MOST: Systems of the Human Body | Tuesday, August 1st at 2:00 PM: Learn about the human body by exploring the different systems within it. Discover the main purposes of each system and the ways they interact, allowing us to accomplish the amazing things we do every day! No registration. Ages 7 – 12.
Crochet for Beginners | Wednesday, August 2nd and 16th at 1:30 PM: Meet us in the teen section of the library to learn the basics of crochet or bring a project you’re working on. Our teen volunteer will bring her expert crochet skills and have extra hooks and yarn on hand for anyone needing supplies. Registration required. Ages 12 – 18.
Random Acts of Science | Thursday, August 3rd at 2:00 – 3:00 PM: Drop-in and experiment with a variety of STEAM activities. No registration. Ages 8 – 12.
Meet a Therapy Dog | Friday, August 4th from 1 – 2:30 PM: Drop in at the library to meet Nessie! Read her a short story from our collection or simply soak up all her peaceful doggie vibes. No registration. All ages.
Forest Bathing with CNY Land Trust | Saturday, August 5th at 9:30 AM: When is the last time you really relaxed? Boost your wellbeing with a guided forest bathing experience also known as Shinrin-Yoku. Destress, find inspiration and clarity through a mindful meditative walk at a CNY Land Trust Preserve. We’ll do some grounding, connect with the trees, water, and even share a cuppa foraged tea. This walk will be slow and easy-going, not a hike or plant I.D. class. This is an opportunity to reconnect with yourself and nature. It’s about slowing down and noticing; being mindful and connected. All abilities welcome. Walk: approximately 2 .5 hrs. Please wear comfortable, sturdy shoes and clothing for walking outdoors. Registration required. Participants will be emailed the meeting location in advance of the program.
The REV at Austin Park | Tuesday, August 8th at 10:30 AM: Grab your picnic blankets and lawn chairs and join us at Austin Park’s for a performance of Aesop’s Fables. Location: Austin Park (near the Jordan Street parking lot). No registration. For ages 5 – 10.
Tidbits of Aesop’s life and the traditions of Greek Theatre, as well as literary devices such as personification and rhyme, are interwoven among such well known tales as The Milkmaid and Her Pail, The Lion and the Mouse and, of course, The Tortoise and the Hare. Our actors use rap, rhyme, and wear masks to give these famous fables a modern twist. Audiences will be entertained as they learn the moral for each tale.
Solve the Mystery |Tuesday, August 8th from 2:00 – 3:30 PM: Be part of the mystery solving team as we review evidence, eliminate suspects, and catch the culprit in the poisoning of Nancy Drew: The Mystery at Magnolia Gardens. This highly collaborative, problem-solving game based on the Nancy Drew series should take between 60 – 90 minutes to solve. Registration required. For ages 13 – 18.
Cookbook Club: Vegetables | Wednesday, August 9th at 6:00 PM | This month’s theme is Vegetables! Bring a prepared dish to share and the cookbook/recipe that inspired the dish. Everyone will have a chance to sample dishes from an assortment of cookbooks while only having to prepare one dish. Make sure you come hungry! Registration is requested so we know how many places to set at the table.
Writer’s Club |Thursday, August 10th at 2:00 PM: Writer’s Club is for kids who love to tell their own stories. Librarian Mary Beth will pose a writing prompt and kids will have time to develop and write their own short stories. No registration. For ages 8 – 12.
Messy Play | Friday, August 11th at 10:30 AM: Join us in the library’s yard for open-ended, child-led playtime. Children will explore a simple mud kitchen, clay sculptures, and bubble blowing. Adults may want to bring a lawn chair to relax as children play. Please wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty. In case of inclement weather, Messy Play will be canceled. No registration. For ages 3 – 7.
Encanto Yoga and Craft for Families | Sunday, August 13th at 1:00 PM: Join us for simple stretches and postures with an Encanto theme. After 30 minutes of yoga, families are invited to make their own breathing bottles to take home using our Encanto craft supplies. Registration required. All ages.
Graphic Novel Book Club | Sunday, August 13th at 2:30 PM: Our August book is CatStronauts: Mission Moon by Drew Brockington. Every month, we’ll read a graphic novel and then get together at the library to chat about the book, play games, and flex our creative brains. No registration. Ages 7 – 12.
Fairy or Gnome House | Tuesday, August 15th at 10:30 AM: Build your own fairy, gnome, or bug house in the library’s garden using natural materials. Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring any sticks, leaves, rocks, etc. from home. For ages 3-7. Rain Date: Friday, August 18th at 10:30 AM.
Off to Preschool! Story Time | Thursday, August 17th at 10:30 – 11:30 AM: Join us for a preschool celebration! We’ll read books, sing songs, play and have a sweet treat during this special story time. No registration. For kids entering preschool in the fall (siblings are always welcome, too!).
Build the Change: Sea Turtles | Thursday, August 17th at 2:00 PM: Build the Change is a powerful way for children to express their hopes and dreams for the future with LEGO bricks, plus their own imagination. Participants will learn about real-life problems and brainstorm sustainable solutions. Registration required. Ages 8 – 12.
Hula Hoop Workshop| Friday, August 18th at 2:00 PM: Join us on the library lawn to learn the basics of hula hooping and a few simple tricks! Have fun and learn how to create your own flow. Taught by our staff member, Val, who has been hooping for over 8 years. Hula hoops will be provided but feel free to bring one from home! Registration required. For ages 9-12.
Pokemon Fan Club: Ages 10 – 15 |Sunday, August 20th from 1:00 – 2:00 PM: Are you a Pokemon fan? Stop by the library to connect with other Pokemon enthusiasts and play Battle Academy with help from our Youth Leader. Participants are also welcome to bring their own card collection for trading and/or Nintendo Switch and any Pokemon video games to play. Registration required. Ages 10 – 15.
Morning Book Club: When No One is Watching|Monday, August 21st at 10:30 AM: Join us on the 3rd Monday of every month to chat books! Come every month or just for the books that interest you most. This month we’ll be discussing When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole. The gentrification of a Brooklyn neighborhood takes on a sinister new meaning in this psychological thriller. Copies of the book are available at the library.
Solve the Mystery |Wednesday, August 23rd from 6:00 – 7:30 PM: Be a part of the mystery solving team and join us for a highly collaborative, immersive, problem-solving game. We’ll review evidence, eliminate suspects, and catch the culprit in the death of an employee at a seaside amusement park. Registration required.
Guitar Concert: Timothy Schmidt | Saturday, August 26th at 7:30 PM: Guitarist Timothy Schmidt has performed in numerous solo and chamber concerts and has appeared on recital series for the Rochester Guitar Society, the Auburn Chamber Symphony, Utica College, LeMoyne College, the Truro Twilight Concerts on Cape Cod, and the American Church in Paris, France. He has performed frequently in the Syracuse area for the Society for New Music, Civic Morning Musicals and Arts Alive in Liverpool, Syracuse Opera and other organizations.
Evening Book Club: More Than You’ll Ever Know | Wednesday, August 30th at 6:30 PM: Join us on the last Wednesday of the month to chat books. This month we’re reading More than You’ll Ever Know by Katie Gutierrez, an evocative drama about a woman caught leading a double life after one husband murders the other, and the true-crime writer who becomes obsessed with telling her story. Copies of the book are available at the library.
