CAMILLUS — Friends of Camillus Park, Joe and Mary Flynn, are the proud recipients of a new West Entrance trail kiosk, thanks to recently announced Eagle Scout, David White.
This project was the long term culmination of family, friends and Boy Scouts.
It began with Dick Sykes suggesting that White speak with Joe Flynn about putting up a new trail map in Camillus Park.
White with Joe Flynn, scout leaders, mentors, his parents (Chris and Cathie White) on Oct 23, 2019.
White and those involved took pictures and checked out the existing sign at Camillus Park on Nov. 3, 2019.
White met with the scout committee to plan his Eagle Project on Nov. 17, 2019.
After meeting with Scoutmaster Andre Tanguay, White reviewed then signed off on his Eagle Project on Nov. 18, 2019.
Then COVID-19 struck.
It was nearly a year later on Sept. 20, 2020 before White resumed his project.
After a Zoom meeting with Joe and Mary Flynn and Eric Bacon on Sept. 30, 2020, White revised his drawings with father’s CAD computer and he was once again on his way.
With the leftover material from a home remodel; wood, metal roofing, screws, wood glue, clear stain, 10 bags of cement and battery powered tools, White got back to work on Nov. 2, 2020.
White said it was very hard work but with many volunteers, it was a little easier.
White said there was also great weather.
Special thanks was extended by White to Mike Cahill who provided work hours and his truck, Rich Anderson for providing the finished roof cap, Scoutmaster Andy Tanguay, ASM Brian Winoski, ASM Lisa Meyers, Joe Flynn, Chris and Cathie White, Boy Scouts Alex Stearns and Justin West for their time at the site.
