SKANEATELES — The Skaneateles Area Arts Council (SKARTS) announced funding for its 2021 grant awards for art and cultural activities.
Grants are awarded to groups and individuals within a 15-mile radius of the village of Skaneateles.
Applications are located at the SKARTS website Grants page: art4skarts.org/grant-application.
The deadline for submission is May 31, 2021.
All artists, arts organizations, choral groups, museums, schools, theaters and other not[1]for-profit organizations committed to the arts are encouraged to apply. Multiple grants are issued with a maximum of $1,000 per grant. Not all applicants are awarded grants.
Grant winners are identified at SKARTS’ sole discretion through their judging process.
“We owe a special thanks to our 2020 sponsors and contributors who continued to support SKARTS even though we were unable to hold our fund-raising art show due to the pandemic,” Laurel Moranz, SKARTS president said. “Thanks to these donors’ generosity, the board was able to approve funding for the 2021 grant program.”
Since 2006, SKARTS has issued over 116 grants, contributing to the pursuit of artistic and cultural endeavors in the area.
Grant winning projects for 2020 ranged widely from purchases of art supplies and instruments to sponsorship of on-line musical performances or organizations and educational opportunities.
According to Moranz, many applicants needed funds to support new priorities and a shift to online events and classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It was our pleasure to support the 2020 grantees for continuing to bring art and creativity into the life of our community when it was needed the most,” Moranz said.
The SKARTS 2020 grantees included Auburn Chamber Orchestra, Auburn Players Community Theatre, Auburn Public Theater, Auburn Unitarian Universalist Society for Gallery 607, John D. Barrow Art Gallery, Victoria Fitzgerald Art, E. John Gavras Center, Genesee Elementary School, Lakeside Performing Arts Series at St. James’ Episcopal Church, Montessori School of The Finger Lakes, MasterWorks Chorale, The Rev Theatre Company (Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, Inc.), Skaneateles Festival Robinson Award, Skaneateles Figure Skating Club, Skaneateles Nursery School and Skaneateles Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
The SKARTS grants program is funded primarily by their annual art show and artists reception, Art4Skarts. Moranz reports that the board is working on new ways to raise funds for their grant initiative and reaching out to sponsors and friends.
Depending on progress in community health and CDC guidelines, the Board is looking into events in fall 2021 and 2022. Donations can be made to the SKARTS grants program at art4skarts.org/donate on the SKARTS website.
SKARTS mission is to celebrate the visual, performing and literary arts by creating an environment where cultural activity thrives in our community.
SKARTS is a not-for-profit organization.
