Incumbent Republican Kevin Holmquist is leading by about 134 votes against Democrat Mark Matt in the Onondaga County Legislature District 10 race. According to unofficial votes by the Onondaga County Board of Elections, Holmquist received 40.85 percent (3,945 votes) compared to Matt’s 49.12 percent (3,800 votes). There are still more than 400 absentee ballots that could be counted toward the race.
Holmquist has held the seat since 2005, and before that served on the Manlius Town Board and the Village of Manlius Board of Trustees. He was endorsed in this election by the Republican, Conservative, Veterans, Taxpayer’s First parties, as well as the CSEA.
“We’re on the right side of this,” Holmquist said election night. “I think the Constitutional Convention brought out voters who normally may not have voted…We know for a fact that our residents are very happy with the direction the town and county are going.”
This was Matt’s first run for political office. Matt was endorsed in this election by the Democrat, Working Families and Women’s Equality parties.
“We want every vote counted,” said Matt. “I’m very proud to have made it a competitive race which is something new in our town and I’m excited about that.”
The Onondaga County District 10 covers a majority of the town of Manlius. The term for this position is two years.
