Beginning Aug. 21 and continuing for five weeks, travelers who drive along Nelson Road in the town of Fenner will have to find a detour.
The county highway department is set to begin repair on a culvert on Nelson Road, which will cause the road closure from Cody’s Corners to Fenner Corners, said Madison County Highway Superintendent Joe Wisinski. The work will include removing the existing culvert, installing a new, larger culvert that can handle a larger water flow and raising the elevation of the road in that area, Wisinski said. All in all, about 600 feet of roadway will be redone.
“This is a regularly scheduled replacement project, it had nothing to do with the July 1 storm,” Wisinski said. He said many culverts around the county are decades old and simply need to be replaced with larger culverts to be in line with current state regulations.
While work is ongoing, a detour will be set up from Fenner East Road to Buyea Road to Cody Road, Wisinski said.
