Bella Bello Kids is a newly opened kid’s consignment shop in DeWitt that aims to help save customers money on name brand clothing and accessories for children by offering new and like-new clothing and shoes for newborns all the way up to tweens.
“I think if you can save people money, and also allow them to earn money for clothes that they may have spent a lot on, it keeps them all rotating and is helpful for families,” said Bella Bello Kids owner Tina French.
French recently relocated to the Syracuse area from New Hampshire with her two boys, who are eight and 10 years old. After moving, she said she realized there was a need for a children’s consignment shop in the DeWitt area.
Bella Bello Kids takes in gently used items from owners to sell at the shop. French said if the item is sold in the selling period of three months, the owner of the item gets 40 percent of the price tag value. From here, the owner can choose to be paid by cash up to $40, check or in-store credit.
French added that she is available to go to potential seller’s houses to do a “clean sweep” of their item to determine what can be sold in the store.
The store carries many high end brands, such as Mini Boden, Hanna Andersson, Uggs, Gymborie, Janie and Jack, and Ralph Lauren. In addition to clothing and accessories, French said the store also offers children’s toys, strollers, cribs, diaper bags and many other things a parent would need for their child.
“I want to stress that it’s new and used consignment, but I don’t want families to think we only take the number one best brands. It’s a huge mix,” said French.
French has experience in the business of consignment, having owned and operated a similar shop, called Little Boutique Upscale Resale and Consignment, in her native state of New Hampshire for six years.
In addition to selling name brand children’s items, French said she hopes to turn Bella Bello Kids into a learning center for parents and children alike. French has already begun offering the shop as the site for Italian lessons, but hopes to expand to other languages and activities geared toward children.
“I want to do thing where people that own small businesses or at-home businesses can use the space to do something,” said French. “I just want to offer more things that a mom and child can come to.”
French said she’s only been open for about a month and a half, but has received positive feedback so far.
“I think it’s very much needed in the area,” said French. “Everyone that has come in has said they’re glad I’m here on the East side … They’re all really thankful that I’m here.”
Bella Bello Kids is currently accepting clothing for the fall and winter seasons. The store is located at 4320 E. Genessee St. in DeWitt, and is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the remainder of July, and in August will go back to regular hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
