Baldwinsville’s best track and field athletes did not want their season to conclude at Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium during Friday’s Section III state qualifier.
Attempting to move forward among large schools in Division I, and advance to this weekend’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet at the University at Albany, was a stated goal, and the Bees tried to reach it.
The Bees were third in the girls 4×400 relay as seniors Rachael Miller and Marissa Lathrop, junior Kelley Hull and freshman Tina Bartelli posted 4:03.91. Liverpool prevailed in 3:55.51, edging out Rome Free Academy (3:56.53) for that top spot.
Lathrop made her way to third place in the 1,500-meter run in 4:59.45, chasing the star duo of F-M’s Sophia Ryan (4:46.56) and West Genesee’s Carly Benson (4:47.15), and was fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:25.93.
Haleigh Jaquint, contending in the triple jump, went 34 feet 7 ¼” inches to rise to third place behind F-M’s Christabel Ezidegwu (37’3”) and East Syracuse Minoa’s Mia Montgomery (37 feet). In the pole vault, Brittany LaRock cleared 8’6”, getting to third place behind Central Square’s Bethany Cripps, who won by topping 11’6”.
Miller took fourth place in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.10 and Tina Bartelli (1:01.75) was eighth. LaRock, Rebecca Lawrence, Laura Kick and Anna Demer were seventh in the 4×100 relay in 52.11 seconds, with Lawrence eighth in the 100-meter dash in 13.96 seconds.
B’ville also did well in the boys 4×800 relay, where sophomore Evan Vannatta joined seniors Arden Kellner, Brennan LaQue and Dan Conlan to finish third in a swift time of 7:58.57. Only Fayetteville-Manlius (7:48.31) and Liverpool (7:51.74) fared better.
Evan Donhauser took fourth place in the 110 high hurdles in 17.06 seconds as LaQue, Vannatta, Kieran Sheriden and Andrew Carter were fifth (3:34.38) in the 4×400 relay. Sam Smith got fourth place in the 400-meter hurdles in 59.92 seconds, while Kellner was sixth in the 800-meter run in 1:59.44.
