When their house burned down May 3, Leslie and Chris Lamirande of Van Buren lost more than their home: they lost their 2-year-old daughter, Nora.
In Nora’s memory, neighbors have set up a fundraising website for the Lamirandes and their son, Mason, 4.
“It is to our knowledge that their home will be a complete loss, as well as all of their belongings in it,” Rachele Grant wrote on the Remembering Nora Lamirande Fund’s page.
Grant seeks to raise $100,000 for the Lamirande family and is also accepting donations of clothing and toys for Mason Lamirande. At press time, the fund had already received more than $11,000.
Leslie Lamirande was supervising her son playing outside when a fire broke out in their home at 25 Naylor Circle around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Nora Lamirande was sleeping inside.
Neighbors and first responders attempted to resuscitate the 2-year-old, but she was pronounced dead at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse.
State police said Monday the fire was caused by food left on the stove in the Lamirandes’ kitchen.
