Everyone in local indoor track and field was back in action at SRC Arena for last week’s John Arcaro Memorial Invitational – including Baldwinsville, for whom the meet meant a bit more, given John Arcaro’s long and rich history with the Bees’ track program.
In the boys edition last Wednesday night, B’ville picked up 34 points, landing them in fourth place. Liverpool (90 points) beat Fayetteville-Manlius (75 points) for top honors, with Cicero-North Syracuse (46 points) in third place.
Evan Donhauser came within an inch of winning the 55-meter hurdles. With his time of 8.15 seconds, Donhauser got nosed out by East Syracuse-Minoa’s Jeremy McGrath (8.14 seconds) by one-hundredth of a second.
B’ville also was second in the 4×200 relay, where Arden Kellner, Brendan LaQue, Kieran Sheriden and Evan Vannatta gained a time of 3:41.28, beating everyone except Liverpool, who won in 3:36.31. Kellner was eighth (2:45.67) and Dan Conlon (2:46.58) were eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 1,000-meter run, with LaQue eighth (1:31.50) in the 600-meter run.
Sam Mahar, in 6.84 seconds, got to third place in the 55-meter dash, where Nottingham’s Shaheed Bashar-Dickerson (6.71 seconds) prevailed, with Mahar also fifth in the long jump (18 feet 10 inches) as Martin Sak (18’6 ½”) tied for seventh. Austin Catalano got to sixth place in the triple jump, going 37’7 ¼” to edge out Sak (37’2 ¼”), who was eighth.
Conlon, Andrew Carter, Denis Keegan and Adam Davis took fourth place in the 4×800 relay in a time of 8:44.12, with Mahar, Sheriden, Sak and Alex Anselment fourth in the 4×200 relay in 1:40.95.
Ryan Delola stepped up and finished sixth in the 3,200-meter run in 10:29.28, with Colin Spaulding (11:14.96) in 10th place. Carter Smith took 10th in the shot put (37’9 ¾”) and Alex Ayo was 15th in the 300-meter dash, with Anselment 11th in the high jump.
When the girls Arcaro meet was held one night later, B’ville did quite well here, too, picking up 28 points for fifth place. Again, Liverpool (90 points) and F-M (75 points) took the top two spots.
Maria Diamond managed the Bees’ best finish, in the pole vault, where she tied for second by clearing 7 feet 6 inches, though Central Square’s Bethany Cripps won by clearing 10 feet.
Hailey Couchman made her way to third place in the 300 in 42.86 seconds, with Rebecca Lawrence getting fifth place in 44.64 seconds. Lawrence, in 7.74 seconds, grabbed fifth place in the 55 sprint, and Maizy Ludden ran well, too, getting fifth place in the 3,000-meter run in 11:02.79.
In the 4×400, B’ville’s quartet of Katie Wicks, Anna Demer, Marissa Lathrop and Tina Bartelli took fourth place in 4:21.41, with Lathrop grabbing fourth place in the 600 in 1:43.15. The Bees added a seventh-place time of 11:53.17 in the 4×800 and were ninth (2:00.96) in the 4×200.
Destinee Luciano and Haleigh Jaquint were 10th and 11th, respectively, in the 55 hurdles, with Claire McMahon and Emily McComb taking those same spots in the 1,500-meter run.
Jaquint did better in the triple jump, going 30’11 1/2” for seventh place, while Marina Blasi was 10th in the long jump and Sarah Rodman took 13th in the 1,000. Anna Miller was 11th (27’ ½”) in the shot put and Adrianna Straughter tied for 12th in the high jump.
