Between a diving sweep and a pair of relay titles, the Skaneateles girls swim team had plenty to feel good about in last Wednesday night’s home meet against Baldwinsville, even though the Lakers took a 97-84 defeat to the Bees.
That diving competition would prove quite close. Tara Chalupnicki and Kyra Cottrill almost matched each other with scores, but it was Chalupnicki, with 165.45 points, prevailing by a full point over Cottrill.
Leah King would emerge victorious in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 26.67 seconds, more than two seconds ahead of the Bees’ Grace Smith (28.82 seconds).
Though that was the Lakers’ lone individual win, Leah King would pair with Halle King, Haley Buchholz and Rachel Teixeira as Skaneateles posted a quick time of 1:50.95 to prevail in the 200 freestyle relay. Then, in the 400 freestyle relay, that same quartet would win again in 4:01.88.
B’ville featured a pair of girls that won two races apiece. Amanda Johnson would take first in the 100 freestyle (1:00.62) and 100 backstroke (1:05.44), while Brooke Atkinson got first place in the 200 individual medley (2:25.04) and added a 100 butterfly title in 1:03.23.
When they held the Onondaga High School League meet on Friday, the Lakers saw Buchholz, Teixeira, Leah King and Halle King win the 400 freestyle relay, their time of 3:57.54 enough to claim a thriller over Jamesville-DeWitt, who was second in 3:57.65, just 0.11 seconds behind.
Earlier, that same quartet earned third place in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:49.62, whiel Teixeira, on her own, posted the best individual finish for the Lakers, gaining third place in 2:28.03.
Skaneateles finishes the regular season by going up against undefeated West Genesee on Wednesday night in Camillus.
