They called Tuesday’s cross country gathering at Baldwinsville the CNY Counties League Jubilee, and it sure turned into a celebration for Fayetteville-Manlius.
Not only did the Hornets sweep to the boys and girls team titles, they did so posting the fastest speed ratings in the nation this fall.
What made it even more impressive was that it came on a course essentially the same as the one hundreds of runners had trod on just three days earlier during the Sept. 20 Baldwinsville Invitational. A few steps were added to the course, but it still had plenty of wear and tear on it.
And it didn’t matter one bit to the Hornets, who saw its no. 1-ranked boys team pick up 18 points, again beating Liverpool’s total of 44 points as the two sides separated themselves from the rest of the nine-team field.
Bryce Millar, running together with teammate Peter Ryan, tore to a victory and, with a time of 14 minutes, 42.3 seconds, set a new B’ville course record, just 0.2 seconds ahead of Ryan, who was second in 14:42.5.
F-M swept the top four spots to fend off Liverpool. Following Millar and Ryan, Kyle Barber made his way to third place in 15:07.1, while Adam Hunt, in fourth place (15:11.3), was well clear of the Warriors’ Ben Petrella, who finished fifth in 15;19.3.
Riley Hughes rounded out F-M’s scoring column with his eighth-place finish in 15:26.1. Patrick Perry (15:59.6) and Jon Abbott (16:03.1) were 12th and 13th, respectively, with Joe Walters in 20th place in 16:19.6 and Ben Otis (16:25.2) in 22nd place. Brian Geehrer was 30th in 16:32.6.
In the girls CNYCL Jubilee, F-M proved even more dominant, with nine of the top 12 runners in the field and an overall total of 17 points, comfortably ahead of runner-up West Genesee, who had 74 points.
Again in front, Annika Avery won the race in 17 minutes, 21.8 seconds, exactly one second ahead of Jenna Farrell, who ran to second place in 17:22.8. As part of another top-four sweep, Samantha Levy got to third place in 17:28.8, well clear of Sophia Ryan, who finished fourth in 17:37.1.
Olivia Ryan led F-M’s next group, making her way to seventh place in 18:26.6. then Reilly Madsen finished ninth, in 18:37.9, two seconds clear of Mackenzie Pierie (18:39.9) in 10th place, while Jessica Howe finished 11th (18:41.1) and Palmer Madsen, in 18:56.2, got to 12th place. Keita Peden, in 20:09.7, took 26th place.
