Rep. Dan Maffei (D-Syracuse) announced last week that he had earned the endorsement of local public safety officials in his campaign to keep his seat in the 24th Congressional District.
Several first responders joined Maffei at a press conference to announce their support for the incumbent, who is running against former federal prosecutor John Katko of Camillus.
“As firefighters, in order to do our jobs to the best of our abilities, we need the support of our elected leaders,” said Wayne Hall, a retired firefighter with the Syracuse Fire Department. “Our community needs a representative who has the determination, experience, and proven record of helping local first responders. Through his work on behalf of firefighters, Rep. Maffei has earned our support and I am happy to endorse him.”
“Rep. Maffei’s record, and his steadfast support for important programs like the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program and the SAFER Grant program, have helped first responders across Central New York,” said Kenan Baldridge, the supervisor of the Town of Rose and a volunteer with the North Rose Fire Department. “Dan Maffei has been a true ally to the first responders’ community in Wayne County and I am happy to endorse him.”
“Day after day, first responders work to keep our communities safe and protect our families,” said Rep. Dan Maffei. “It has been a privilege to partner with our fire departments across Central New York during my time in office. I am so honored to receive the endorsement of first responders and I pledge to continue working with them to secure the resources and equipment they need.”
Stirpe earns support of League of Conservation Voters
Meanwhile, fellow Democrat Al Stirpe received the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters.
Stirpe, the incumbent, is running for the 127th Assembly District seat against Republican Rob DeMarco, a former chief assistant district attorney in Onondaga County.
The New York League of Conservation Voters works to make environmental sustainability a top political and policy priority in New York state. According to a statement, Stirpe has been an advocate for the environment in CNY.
“Since being elected to the Assembly in 2007, Al Stirpe has been instrumental in improving recycling throughout his district,” read the statement. “This year, he conducted two e-recycling events and collected five tractor-trailer loads of used electronics that would have otherwise gone into a landfill. Further, Stirpe is working with a group of investors to establish a Regional Paint Recycling Center for Upstate New York. In addition, Assemblymember Stirpe has supported the environmental community’s top priorities, including legislation to get polluting plastic beads out of consumer products; a bill to help protect children from toxic chemicals; and legislation to help our state prepare for a changing climate.”
“Central New York’s environment has a strong ally in Al Stirpe,” said Rhea Jezer, Central New York Board Representative, New York League of Conservation Voters. “Throughout his career in public service, Assemblymember Stirpe has made clean water, green jobs and a healthy environment top priorities. We are proud to endorse him for re-election, and we encourage voters who want a greener, cleaner Central New York to support Al Stirpe for Assembly.”
