Residence
Eight years ago this month I relocated to Lysander from suburban Philadelphia, Penn., where I now live with my two sons (Christopher and Daniel), my fur-son (Jack), and husband (Scott).
Where do you work? What are your responsibilities?
I have held the position of executive director of the Greater Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce for almost four years.
Something that many people don’t realize is that the chamber operates as a not-for-profit membership organization. As such, my primary responsibilities are to our members. Some of those include scheduling educational programming, providing networking opportunities, offering referrals, making connections, etc. The chamber is also responsible for the management of our Visitor Center, which is a hidden gem on Lock 24.
I am really excited to report that Baldwinsville is seeing an influx of businesses moving into the community, as well as expansions taking place with existing establishments, and entrepreneurs choosing to startup right here in our village. For example, Three Anchors Studio (located at 30 Oswego St.) has just opened, Savvy Chick has relocated to Baldwinsville from Solvay, Beyond The Attic Door has relocated due to expansion (but stayed in the village), and Sal’s Pizza is in the process of expanding/relocating. There is much more happening in the village – stay tuned!
What do you like most about your job? least?
I love working with Baldwinsville’s enthusiastic business owners who are truly committed and invested in our community. I feel that we live in one of the most dynamic communities in Onondaga County. It brings me great pleasure to have the opportunity to increase exposure of Baldwinsville’s culture and events in the media, beyond the boundaries of our vast community.
I honestly don’t dislike anything about my position but if I could change anything it would be to own the business myself. I feel that much passion for what I do.
Do you have a favorite book? If so, what and why?
Selecting a favorite book is difficult, as there are so many great ones! Today, I answer this question with “The Red Tent,” by Anita Diamant, a historical fiction novel. It is a powerful and emotional story about a young biblical Dinah, and left tears in my eyes, wanting more upon reading the last word. I can’t think of another book that has had such an effect on me.
Favorite vacation spot?
My most favorite family vacation destination is Bethany Beach, DE. It is quietly nestled between Rehoboth Beach and Ocean City, MD. I love the quiet beaches and modest boardwalk. Bethany Beach is a vacation gem in my book.
If you could have lunch with anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why?
I think it would be really great to have lunch with Ronald Reagan. He was the first president I voted for and I continue to lean on his words of inspiration even today.
What is one thing most people would not know about you?
Something that most people don’t know about me is that I aspired to be a sports broadcaster when I went to SUNY Oswego. I was one of those weird kids in high school that actually found a way to get extra credit in gym class! Back then I was all about SU Basketball, MLB, and the NFL (I used to take notes during games). I’ve since expanded my horizons into being a fairly outspoken NHL fan (go Flyers), compliments of my boys playing hockey for many years and my involvement in the sport of hockey in various capacities.
