Even in a season full of interruptions and distractions, the Skaneateles girls track and field team found its way to the top of the Onondaga High School League Liberty National division.
The Lakers clinched first place in Wednesday afternoon’s meet against Syracuse’s Institute of Technology Central at Hyatt Stadium, rolling to a 92-43 victory over the Eagles.
In the last home meet of her illustrious high school career, Madeline Adams took on a supporting role, but she did run a leg in the 4×800 relay, joining Liz Dwyer, Kaitlyn Neal and Maria Schillace as the Lakers finished in 11:59.5.
Jillian Van Leer won twice on the oval, taking the 800-meter run in 2:47.2 and adding a 1,500-meter title, too. Then she added a third title in the triple jump by going 29 feet 11 inches.
Lydia Parker ran the 400-meter dash in 1:09 flat as Schillace took the 3,000-meter run (13:39.8) and Taylor Woodruff ran the 200-meter dash in 29.5 seconds. Woodruff later added a second title in the long jump, going 15’4” on her best attempt.
Katherine Krebs was victorious in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:22.3 and paired with Van Leer, Melissa Amory and Carley Mills to take the 4×400 relay in 5:28.3. Amory, on her own, cleared 4’2” to win the high jump as Megan Molnar topped 8 feet in the pole vault.
And the Sknaeateles boys track team made it a sweep against ITC, winning in even more lopsided fashion as it turned back the Eagles 105-35.
Jeff Kringer ran the 100 in 11.5 seconds and the 200 in 24.1 seconds, sweeping both sprints, while James Hackler won the 400 sprint in 54.9 seconds. In distance events, Patrick Biver took the 800 in 2:19.3, with Cooper Watt running the mile in 5:16.4 and Chris Niebuhr going 3,200 meters in 11:33.2.
Biver, paired with Hackler, Watt and Tommy Hagen, won the 4×400 relay in 5:28.5, with Kringer, Jacob Blewett, Max Messie and Jacob Peterson victorious in the 4×400 (49.0 seconds) and Biver, Niebuhr, Calvin Blackwell and Scott Harrop getting first place in the 4×800 relay in 11:24.9.
In field events, Messie cleared 10 feet for a victory in the pole vault. Chase Corcoran threw the discus 101’10” to win that event, while Peterson went 37’11” in the triple jump and Eli Goodell took the high jump, clearing 5’4”.
