Both of Cazenovia’s track and field teams had one more opportunity to compete at home – and did not waste it.
The Lakers hosted Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Wednesday afternoon at Buckley-Volo Field, and the girls had little trouble with the Rebels, prevailing by a score of 103-38, while the boys also prevailed, stopping APW 79-62.
Katherine Gabor won both the 1,500-meter run (5:27.3) and 400 hurdles (1:14.5), with Maria Stalder earning her double in the sprints, running the 200-meter dash in 29.9 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 1:04.8.
Jeanette Cudney again excelled in distance running, taking the 800-meter run in 2:38 flat and adding a 3,000-meter title in 12:05.7. Liz Pittman was first in the triple jump, going 31’1”, and added a pole vault title by clearing 8’6”.
Jessica Macheda needed 13.9 seconds to get first place in the 100-meter dash, with Hannah Dain first (71’3”) in the discus. Macheda, Ashley Kent, Julia Raleigh and Delaney Yates ran the 4×100 relay in 56.1 seconds, with Mya Walters, Jenna Britton, Maria Stalder and Colleen Stalder going 10:56.1 in the 4×800.
Walker Nichols, Ryan O’Herien and Sean Satchwell each won twice to help the Cazenovia boys finish on top. Nichols went 20’8” in the long jump and cleared 5’10” in the high jump, while O’Herien threw the shot put 37’7 ½”and ran the 100 sprint in 12 seconds flat.
Elsewhere, Satchwell sped to victory in the 800 in 2:05.4 and went 11:51.0 for first place in the 3,200-meter run. Tom McNerney went 56.7 seconds to win the 400 sprint. Brendan Coffey prevailed in the mile in 5:19.7. John Nannery topped 9 feet in the pole vault.
The Lakers also won two of three relays. Nichols, O’Herien, McNerney and Dan McKillop needed exactly 48 seconds to win the 4×100. Nannery, Coffey, Hugh Slocum and Connor Carroll ran the 4×800 in 10:20.5, while
