A female student at Cazenovia College was allegedly raped last weekend in the college dorms by a male classmate.
The reported incident is currently under investigation by Cazenovia Village Police and Cazenovia College Campus Safety/Security, said Cazenovia Police Chief Michael Hayes.
According to Hayes, the incident allegedly occurred during late night Friday, May 2 and early morning Saturday, May 3 in a college dorm room. He could not release the ages or academic year of the alleged victim or alleged perpetrator.
Police would not release any further information about the incident.
Wayne Westervelt, Cazenovia College vice president for marketing and communications, said the college is “cooperating fully with law enforcement regarding a pending complaint of sexual assault.”
“We take such matters seriously and details of such incidents are not disclosed, nor are involved parties identified when an investigation is pending and for reasons of privacy. The college also follows its internal Student Code of Conduct, judicial and reporting procedures in accordance with all regulations,” he said.
Cazenovia College is a co-ed school of about 1,000 students.
The last day of classes for the spring academic year was Monday, May 5, with student final exams occurring the rest of the week.
The 2014 graduation commencement ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, May 17.
