Baldwinsville’s track and field teams found themselves facing multiple opponents last Wednesday afternoon, even though it was only scheduled to take on Liverpool.
The strength of the Warriors, combined with heavy rains, made it difficult for the Bees, and it lost both sides of the meet, with the boys taking a 75-57 defeat at LHS Stadium and the girls overwhelmed in a 113-19 decision at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium.
B’ville did do a strong job in the sprints of the boys meet, including the 200-meter dash, where Dan Walker prevailed in 23.9 seconds, and 400-meter dash, where Jeff Mahar claimed first place in 51.5 seconds. Evan Donhauser needed 16.5 seconds to win the 110 high hurdles, while Sam Smith beat the field in the 400-meter hurdles.
B’ville also claimed two of three relays. Walker, Mahar, Connor Lunduski and David Mazurkiewicz paired to win the 4×100 in 46.7 seconds, with Jack Martin joining Walker, Mahar and Lunduski to help the Bees cover the 4×400 relay in 3:34.7.
Liverpool was so good in the girls meet against B’ville that it won all of the individual events, three of them by Ore Akinpelu, who took the 100 sprint (12.9 seconds), 200 sprint (26.8 seconds) and 400 hurdles (1:10.1) by the time she was done.
Both B’ville teams would make their way to Friday’s Chittenango Invitational and roar back into prominence, the girls getting 100.33 points, second only to Fayetteville-Manlius (131 points) and ahead of Liverpool (fifth, 50 points), while the boys had 109 points, taking third right behind Liverpool (110 points) as F-M (149 points) won here, too.
Ruling in the sprints, the boys Bees saw Brian Mahar go 11.72 seconds in the 100-meter dash, the same time (but slightly ahead) of Carthage’s Malik Little, with Jeff Mahar going to the 400-meter dash and, in 51.82 seconds, top Auburn’s Leon Atkins (52.01 seconds) to pull it out.
B’ville also had Evan Donhauser show up in the 110 high hurldles and, in 16.40 seconds, easily prevail over Cazenovia’s Walker Nichols (16.99 seconds) and the field. As if that wasn’t enough, Josh Perez went 10:59.52 to hold off Liverpool’s Jacob Rowell (11:01.03) and win the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
In the 4×100 relay, B’ville won as Mazurkiewicz, Lunduski, Walker and Brian Mahar finished in 46.26 seconds, just ahead of Hamilton (46.88 seconds) at the line. Walker and Brennan LaQue joined Jeff Mahar and Brian Mahar as B’ville, in 3:32.74, pulled away from F-M (3:36.46) and the field to win the 4×400 relay.
Dan Conlan, Braden Miles, Andrew Carter and Jason Ekure got second place (9:00.69) behind F-M (8:12.46) in the 4×800 relay. Kenneth Stehle was fourth (1:05.15) in the 400 hurdles, with Martin fourth in the 800 (2:02.73) and Ryan Delola sixth in the 3,200-meter run.
Sam Smith earned 2,432 points in the pentathlon and took third place. Mike Yorkey, with a throw of 39’7”, got third place in the shot put as Austin Catalano went 36’8 ½” for fourth place in the triple jump and Dante Giannino was fourth (18’10 ½”) in the long jump and Martin Sak was seventh. Alex Anselment took eighth in the high jump.
For the B’ville girls at Chittenango, there was more sprint success, including the 200, where Rebecca Lawrence prevailed in 27.84 seconds as Auburn’s Shanika Williams (28.86 seconds) had the runner-up spot.
Not only that, but Cierra Allen, in 59.92 seconds, was the only competitor to break one minute in the 400-meter dash, while Katie Wicks got third place in 1:00.80.
Rachael Miller and Kelley Hull ran together in the front of the pack in the mile, both of them finishing in 5:38.51 to earn 18 points. Emily Soeder easily won the high jump, her top clearance of 5’2” nowhere near her best, but still bettering a field where no one else covered 4’8”.
Carlie McNamara was third in the discus, heaving it 89’2”, and added a fifth in the shot put (28’8”). Hannah Moyer was fourth (14’5”) in the long jump, and Brittan LaRock cleared 8 feet to take fourth in the pole vault, while Haleigh Jaquint cleared 30’10 ½” for fifth place in the triple jump.
Allen, Lawrence, Randi Bort and Brittany LaRock paired up in the 4×100 relay to finish second, in 53.41 seconds, behind F-M (52.50 seconds).
Hannah Wood was third in the 100 hurdles in 17.58 seconds, with Liz Wisely (18.04 seconds) in fifth place. Marissa Lathrop needed 2:25.45 for third place in the 800 as Nadine Dickter, Madison Gonzalez, Shylea Dukat and Madison Gonzalez took third in the 4×800 in 11:11.23.
