Though the Cazenovia boys lacrosse team has played three “home” games this season, it’s done so in places outside the Sean Googin Sports Complex as the long winter took a long time to subside.
When the Lakers hosted Tully last Thursday night, it marked the second time in six days that a game got moved to Christakos Field on the Cazenovia College campus, to go with the team’s 13-5 win over Baldwinsville on April 5.
Regardless of the venue, the result for the Lakers remained the same – a convincing victory, as Cazenovia blanked Tully 19-0 to improve to 6-0 on the season.
Attacking at will and converting often, the Lakers pushed its way to an 8-0 first-quarter edge, and nearly doubled that margin by halftime, making it 14-0.
All told, 11 different Cazenovia players would score by game’s end, with Cole Willard and Derek White at the forefront as they both found the net three times, with Willard adding two assists.
Henry Mann had two goals and two assists, while Ted Dwyer, Sam Langan and Jake Lewis had matching two-goal outings. P.J. Brown got a goal and two assists, with Alex Hunt, Kevin Porter and Jake Wozniak also scoring. Jay Hahn, Keaton Ackermann, Jeremy Maxwell and Jake Stowell adde assists.
In between those crosstown trips to Christakos, the Lakers paid a visit to Bishop Ludden/Bishop Grimes and breezed to a 15-0 shutout over that combined squad.
With a steady attack that was in no hurry to operate, Cazenovia took a 5-0 lead in the first quarter and extended the margin to 8-0 by halftime. The Lakers’ defense, led by Eli Mitchell and Mike Nourse, managed to keep Ludden/Grimes off the board, even after the outcome was long decided.
Hunt scored twice and added four assists to anchor a well-balanced attack. White had a team-high three goals, plus an assist, while Mann, Lewis and Ackermann also had two-goal outings and Mann added a pair of assists. Brown got a goal and two assists, with Willard and Dwyer both getting one goal and one assist. Wozniak had the other goal.
So in two games, the Lakers did not surrender a single goal – and dating back to the B’ville contest, it had allowed only one goal in 10 quarters.
On Tuesday, Cazenovia looks to continue the shutout streak at LaFayette before returning to the Googin complex Saturday to face Watertown IHC.
