As the Fayettevile-Manlius girls indoor track and field team rolled to another first-place finish in a big post-season meet, Jamesville-DeWitt would join them.
The Red Rams, edged out for the Section III Class A title by Westhill/Bishop Ludden a week earlier, would go to the front in Thursday’s Onondaga High School League Division 1 meet at SRC Arena, with 102 points to the Warriors’ 89.5 points. East Syracuse-Minoa, with 43 points, finished fourth.
J-D’s Patrece Martin swept the jumping events. In the long jump, Martin went 15 feet 7 ¼ inches in the long jump, where ESM’s Mia Montgomery was fifth (15’1 ½”), and also took the triple jump when she went 34’6 ¼”, an event where Martin’s teammate, Adobea Addo, was third with 30’2”.
Hannah Butler was victorious in the 3,000-meter run in 11:09.50, with Samantha Jaffe third in 11:15.24 and ESM’s Gabby Pallotta (11:15.91) fourth. Brooke DeRoberts, clearing 8’6” with fewer misses than Homer’s Jade Auchmoody, was victorious in the pole vault as ESM’s Alexis Bennik (7’6”) made her way to third place.
Elena Haarer claimed second place in the 600-meter run in 1:42.64, inches behind Auchmoody (1:42.57) at the wire. Haarer, paired with Kim Walsh, Laura Wengert and Emilee Carpenter, gained second place in the 4×800 relay in 10:16.98, with ESM fourth in 10:33.30.
J-D also saw Catherine Keane, Afua Addo, Adobea Addo and Mackenzie Maxam get to third place in the 4×400 relay in 4:32.21, with ESM (4:47.18) in sixth place. Alexia Carr was sixth for the Rams in the 55-meter dash in 8.03 seconds as she, along with Maxam, Keane and Kailee Phileo, took third in the 4×200 relay in 1:56.61, again with the Spartans sliding into fifth place in 1:59.90.
As she has done all season, ESM’s Nina Zesky controlled the high jump, winning this time with a top leap of 5’2”, with J-D’s Toria Carter in fifth place.
The Spartans also had Natalie Marra finish second in the 1,500-meter run in 5:03.84, with J-D teammates Emilee Carpenter third (5:04.60) and Butler fourth (5:05.90). Juliette Miller took fourth place in the 1,000-meter run in 3:16.67, where J-D’s Laura Wengert was fifth. Kate McGarrity gave ESM a fifth-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles.
Up in the CNY Counties League National division, it was all F-M, as it piled up 150 points, comfortably ahead of runner-up Cicero-North Syracuse (110 points) and the field.
Annika Avery and Alana Pearl each won two races. Avery was victorious in the 3,000 in 10:24.89, with Jenna Farrell second (10:30.74), and then moved to the 600 to win that race in 1:39.74, with Olivia Ryan (1:40.08) right behind her.
Pearl would win the 1,000 in 3:01.42, with Jessica Howe (3:05.68) sliding into third place, and later would need 4:50.72 to roar to victory in the 1,500, with Sophia Ryan third in 4:57.94. Pearl, Avery, Howe and Ryan easily won the 4×800 in 9:50.16, with Liverpool (10:14.27) nearly half a minute back.
F-M, in fact, swept the relays. Ryan, Mikayla Ruthig, Natalie Zazzara and Anna Perrotti needed 4:07.51 to pull away from Liverpool (4:18.15) and the field in the 4×400, and in the 4×200 Zazzara, Perrotti, Nicole Amico and Shauna Cheathen went 1:51.77 to edge Baldwinsville (1:52.17) and claim the top spot there, too.
Christobel Ezidiegwu finished second in the 55 hurdles in 9.10 seconds, adding a third in the triple jump by going 34’8 ½” and fourth (4’10”) in the high jump, where Anna Castro cleared 5 feet to gain third place.
Zazzara went 43.04 seconds for third place in the 300 as Perrotti (43.91 seconds) got fourth place. Chantal Brennan was fourth (7.79 seconds) and Amico fifth (7.92 seconds) in the 55 sprint. Castro was fourth (14’6 ¾”) in the long jump, with Amico sixth. Sophia Wojnovich (7’6”) and Abby Konys (7 feet) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the pole vault.
CBA had 27 points in OHSL Division 2 as Anna Schug, in 7.53 seconds, topped Pulaski’s Breann Burns (7.65 seconds) to win the 55 sprint, and she was second (42.08 seconds) to Altmar-Parish-Williamstown’s Skylar Pastor (41.73) seconds in the 300. Gabrielle Schug was third in the 1,500 in 5:23.44 as Hailey Dobbins was sixth in the 3,000.
