For the most part, Baldwinsville’s indoor track and field teams spent the last days of January gearing itself for the Section III Class AA championship meet, which takes place next Tuesday night at SRC Arena.
However, the Bees did compete Wednesday during the CNY Indoor Track Association Last Chance Qualifier, where Emily Soeder emerged with a victory in the high jump.
All season long, Soeder and East Syracuse-Minoa’s Nina Zesky have battled for top honors, with Zesky often prevailing. Here, they both would clear 5 feet 3 inches, but since Soeder had fewer misses than Zesky, she took the top spot. Bryn Judkins (4’6”) finished 15th.
Soeder’s win accounted for half the Bees’ 20 points in the qualifier, where no relay events were held, and finished seventh overall as Fayetteville-Manlius, with 66 points, easily took the top spot.
Most of the other points went to Cierra Allen, who contended in the 300-meter dash. With a time of 42.55 seconds, Allen finished second to Altmar-Parish-Williamstown’s Skylar Pastor, who won with 41.90 seconds.
Hannah Wood managed a fifth-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.68 seconds. Kelley Hull just missed points in the 1,000-meter run and claimed seventh place in 3:14.21, while Mia Bolton was 10th (5:19.12) in the 1,500-meter run.
Elsewhere, Maria Diamond tied for eighth in the pole vault, clearing 6’6”, with Hannah Moyer 10th (14’3 ¼”) in the long jump. Carlie McNamara was 11th in the shot put with a toss of 29’1”. Kayleigh Starter got 14th place in the triple jump (29’5”) and Nadine Dickter was 15th in the 3,000-meter run in 12:53.83. Elise Seifritz and Randi Bort were 17th and 18th, respectively, in the 55-meter dash.
Moving to the boys Last Chance Qualifier, Sam Mahar, in 6.84 seconds, was fourth in the 55 sprint as Liverpool’s Ryheim Lawes (6.70 seconds) prevailed. Evan Donhauser got fourth place in the 55 hurdles in 8.47 seconds, while Dan Walker was fifth (38.15 seconds) in the 300 sprint.
Arden Kellner ran the 1,000 in 2:46.89, finishing in 11th place, with Brennan LaQue 12th (1:30.71) in the 600. Harrison Warner took 11th (5’2”) in the high jump, with Griffin Lynch 13th in the pole vault.
Joey Frink finished 15th in the 3,200-meter run, just ahead of Colin Spaulding in 18th place, as Dennis Keegan took 19th place in the mile and Martin Sak was 20th in the long jump.
