All is now in place for the Skaneateles indoor track and field teams as they head to SRC Arena for this week’s Section III championships.
Just before that, though, the Lakers had one more chance to warm up, thanks to Wednesday night’s CNY Indoor Track Association Last Chance Qualifier, also at SRC Arena, where no relays took place, just individual events.
Skaneateles picked up 14 points on the girls side, eight of them from the 1,000-meter run, where Kaitlyn Neal earned a time of three minutes, 5.46 seconds, beating everyone except her long-time rival, Marcellus senior Rachel Garn, who won in 3:03.96.
Just before that, in the 3,000-meter run, Madeline Adams contended for top honors, the senior finishing in 10:57.59 and making it to third place, just behind Jamesville-DeWitt’s Hannah Butler (10:54.64) in the runner-up spot. Fayetteville-Manlius’ Jenna Farrell won in 10:33.86.
Elsewhere, Taylor Woodruff was ninth in the 55-meter dash in 7.85 seconds, while Katelyn Ellison got to 10th place in the 300-meter dash in 45.79 seconds. Finan Malcolm was 14th in the 1,500-meter run in 5:30.78 Liz Dwyer finished 15th at 600 meters (1:51.14).
Moving to field events, Alana Navaroli just missed out on points in the shot put, finishing seventh with a top throw of 30 feet 2 inches. Amanda Wetmore took 13th place in the long jump (14’1”) as Aubreah Lynn cleared 4’4” in the high jump and Natalie Roche was 15th (29’4 ½”) in the triple jump.
In the boys Last Chance Qualifier, the Lakers’ Connor Hill nearly won it, finishing in 38.07 seconds to grab third place, inches behind Corcoran’s Davon Evans (37.93 seconds) and Nottingham’s Tayquon Hightower (37.95 seconds) at the line.
Griffin Lawson had his season-best finish in the long jump, going 18’4 ½” to get to ninth place. Cooper Watt got 11th place in the 600 in 1:30.71, while Zach Schneider threw the shot put 39’7 ½” to finish 13th. Patrick Biver was 20th in the 55 sprint.
